Ying Yang Twins (f/ Adam Levine) - Live Again

In 2005, the venerable Ying Yang Twins enlisted Adam Levine, of Maroon 5 fame and fortune, to sing the chorus on this critically lauded, but eventually overlooked, anthem from their sophomore (i believe) release “U.S.A. (United States of Atlanta). It’s easy to see why it was overlooked by the hip-hop masses as it paints a bleak picture of hip-hop’s most exploited “characters.”

Together, Kaine, D-Roc, and Levine accomplished something seemingly noble, if it weren’t for the grim paradox that haunts the song. The degrading and demeaning and ofttimes hopeless life of an exotic dancer is expounded upon, quite poetically, over a beat that could very well end up being a DJ’s selection for the next round of strippers to the stage.

As they allude to in the song, the Twin’s southern crunk might be the only way anybody will even listen to such a stark critique of their own excesses.
